I have attended this event every year and it is Jazz done Right. As was expected all of the food and drinks were rediculously expensive. The performers did an excellent job! It wasn't true jazz for the most part, but still great music. The concert was beautiful but the tickets are says parking is free but we had to pay 10 bucks
Frankly, Will Downing put me to sleep with his constant chatter and repetitive lyrics. I would not pay money to see them on their own. As far as Kindred and the Family Soul are concerned, they seemed out of place at this event and there are countless other jazz warm up bands who would have been a better choice. Darnell Taylor was unknown to me, but after hearing him play guitar, I look forward to seeing him again. Overall, it was another good Charlotte Jazz Festival! Norman Brown performed with tremendous energy and put on a great show just as he always does and the Rippingtoms were fantastic. When you go to a concert you want to hear the music and not much talk from the artist. Norman Brown was good, but his guitar was slow, and he talked too much.
